An Easter alternative
What is a soundbath? Maybe it's just what you need.

Looking for something a little different this Easter, perhaps a soundbath is just what you need.
“A soundbath is a performance of sound or music which is intended to relax, to spiritually heal, and to create a meditative state,” said Down by Riverside founder Hendrik Gideonse, via in a statement.
Gideonse will play a gong and singing bowls for the program. Gideonse often the sounds are long, deep sustained tones and harmonic resonances that happen higher about droning fundamental tones.
“The sound serves as a focal point for meditation,” he said. “Instead of trying to focus on nothing or on the breath, the participant concentrates on the sound as it changes and develops.”
What to expect
Participants should bring a yoga mat or meditation cushion. Some people have also brought blankets and pillows, he said. There will also be an option to sit in a cushioned chair if desired. Gideonse said there will be an introductory discussion where participants can check in with the group and lately, this has included discussions about stressors, anxiety and depression.
“We will do some breathwork to relax a bit before the actual music,” he said. “The soundbath will last about 60 minutes. After the bath, we will also have time to discuss the experience, check in with our community, and plan how to support each other.”

The event starts at 3 p.m. at the Arts Collaborative Medford, 162 Mystic Ave. The Collaborative is in front of the Theory Wellness Dispensary building. Gideonse urges people to give the soundbath a try.
“I am finding that the gong and bowls are really helping me to cope with everything that is happening right now,” he said. “I feel more calm and more relaxed.” For more information go to: https://www.facebook.com/events/1306407703753876
