The city of Medford has declared a snow emergency effective at 10 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15 due to a forecast that includes a possible 3 to 5 inches across the Greater Boston area.

The storm is expected to arrive Saturday evening, dropping up to 5 inches. Snow is expected to turn to ice overnight.

CBS news reports freezing rain will fall for several hours on Sunday near and west of I-495.

Snow emergency declared

According to the announcement issued by the city, parking will be allowed on secondary roads on the even side of the street only, unless your street has been granted an exemption by the Traffic Commission (you can find a list of those streets at www.medfordma.org/snow).

“Cars parked on the odd side of the street during snow emergencies will be ticketed and towed,” reads the announcement.

There is no parking at all allowed on the main arteries, which have signage but the full list of those streets below or at www.medfordma.org/snow.

If by chance you live on a main artery, you are allowed to park on a secondary road, even if it is permit parking, as these restrictions are temporarily lifted during a snow emergency. Once the snow emergency is lifted, parking enforcement will resume as usual.

The city asks, to help ensure there are enough on-street parking spaces, that if you have access to a driveway, use it and reserve on-street parking for others. Also note that using traffic cones or other items to save parking spaces on the street is not allowed. If cones are on the street, crews will remove them.

And remember, per city ordinance, residents are required to shovel sidewalks abutting their home or business within eight daylight hours after the storm ends. If that doesn’t happen property owners could be fined.
